Title: Tis the Season for Revenge (Springbrook Hills #5)
Author: Morgan Elizabeth
Published: October 25, 2022
Kindle pages: 304
Abbie Keller thought her lawyer boyfriend of 4 years, Richard, was the cream of the crop, the one, everything she ever hoped life could entail – until he dumped her on Halloween night when she was dressed as a bunny.
Abbie’s plan was simple – get revenge. The goal was to make Richard’s life so unbearably miserable that he would come crawling back to her. First part of that mission – f**k the boss and get invited to the firm’s Christmas party.
After one date with Damien Martinez, the founding member of the firm, Abbie realized that the revenge plan was a horrible idea – Damien is a wonderful man and not at all the asshole Richard made him out to be.
Damien is reasonable, passionate, and the most understanding man that has ever walked this earth. He makes Abbie realize that every part that Richard hated about her, another man would think is the full package. Richard hated that Abbie only wore pink, Damien can’t picture her wearing any other color; Richard hated her curves and continually bugged her to lose weight, Damien adored her curved and complimented them constantly.
Damien is the perfect package and is everything that Abbie has ever wanted in a partner, she just needs to build up the courage to tell him about her revenge plan.
I truly enjoyed this book, I was unsure due to all of the hype it’s been getting on booktok and bookstagram, but hands down I really needed to read this book. It made me look at my own life, and exes, and reflect if I changed myself for the worst to match what they wanted in a partner. Granted I’ve only had 3 boyfriends and I married the last one – but my ex before my husband reminded me a lot of Richard.
I loved Abbie’s growth throughout the book, she was trying to deal with her heartbreak while also trying to move on. She didn’t know how to handle a healthy relationship and Damien helped her, and was patient with her, during her journey. Damien showed the reader that you can find someone who cares deeply about everything you are after a heartbreak. I needed to read that and remind myself that I did find that.
The reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars is because some of the dialogue was super cringy, and the author really like 2 phrases. If Damien ended one more sentence with ‘yeah’ I was going to blow a gasket. It was every other sentence! That was too repetitive. Also Abbie responded with ‘Oh’ and Damien would respond, ‘yea, oh”… MY GOD IT WAS TO MUCH!! Read it and you’ll see, it’s just way to much.
Also, this is being advertised as a holiday book, and it definitely is not. Abbie’s main goal is to be invited to the firm’s Christmas party, sure, and it is during winter in New York, but that is as “holiday” as it gets.
Either way, please read this book and watch a beautiful woman rediscover herself and find a man that loves everything about her!
