August was the start of a big shift for me when it came to my reading preferences. I started out reading my usual romances that, lets be honest, I don't read for the plot, and moved more towards thriller and psychological thriller books.
I do love a good romance book, like L.J. Shen or Meghan Quinn, but it was nice to take a break from romance and move to something completely different.

Title: The Panzram Papers
Author: John Borowski & Carl Panzram
Pages: 65
Rating: 3 stars
I only picked this book up because of the episode of Ghost Adventures where they were investigation Execution Rocks in New York. They did a brief segment on how Carl took the bodies of the men and women he killed and dumped them into the ocean by Executioner's Rock.
This book was written by Panzram when he was in prison before he was executed. He discusses his early life and his killing spree.
Honestly I skimmed a lot of it due to him just saying that he wishes he was able to kill more people. I thought I would be more interested in this book than I was.

Title: Diary of a Bad Boy
Author: Meghan Quinn
Pages: 344
Rating: 4 stars
I got into Meghan Quinn due to her baseball romances and I never thought I would love them as much as I did!
'The Diary of a Bad Boy' goes back and forth between Roark's point of view and Sutton's. Roark is a sports agent for a majority of the baseball players in Quinn's other series, and Sutton is a woman who's father is a retiring football player that uses Roark as an agent.
Sutton and Roark have a chance encountering when Roark gets into a fight at a hotdog establishment that Sutton and her best friend were at. Somehow Roark ends up with Sutton's phone and Sutton has Roark's. Sutton tries and tries to get her phone back from Roark and they end up spiraling into a romance from there.
I gave this 4 stars because I really like Sutton and Roark as characters. Sutton is a rich girl but works really hard to get where she is at in life. Roark as an agent is blunt and holds no strings back, he also fights his demons throughout the book to make himself a good fit for Sutton.
HIGHLY recommend this book and anything by Meghan Quinn.

Title: Midnight Blue
Author: L.J. Shen
Pages: 339
Rating: 2 stars
I picked up this book because I truly enjoy L.J. Shen's book, despite the controversy that surrounds her. And let's be honest, the cover.
Alex Winslow is a rock god but needs to be babysat after his latest stint in rehab for his alcohol and coke addictions.
Indie is a girl that needs the money bad to help support her brother, sister-in-law, and baby nephew.
For the next 3 months Indie has to go on tour with Alex's band and make sure that he stays sober. During this time she learns the intimate side of Alex and starts to like him and fall in love.
Predictably Alex messes up and starts drinking and snorting again. Indie ends up leaving and breaking Alex's heart. Don't worry, there is a happy ending.
I gave this book 2 stars because I just got bored with it and I was looking forward to reading the next book.

Title: The Perfect Ruin
Author: Shanora Williams
Pages: 292
Rating: 3.5 stars
Shanora Willliams is the author that introduced me to the thriller category. I've always wanted to read thriller and horror books but, due to my over imagination, they always left me scared shitless.
Ivy Hill's life is ruin when he parents were killed in a hit and run in front of their house. 10 years later, in therapy, she learns the name of the person who hit her family.
Lola is a woman who has it all. The perfect company, the perfect husband, and the perfect house. Life could not get any better for Lola, until Ivy shows up.
Ivy spends the next several years learning Lola's habits and infiltrate into her circle to get close to her, and then ruin her.
I really enjoyed this book. I gave it 3.5 stars because some parts of it dragged, and Ivy's obsession got a little tiring. But the twist at the end was great, I truly didn't see it coming.
If you're looking to get into the thriller genre, I highly recommend this book.

Title: The Therapist
Author: B.A. Paris
Pages: 300
Rating: 2 stars
I did a full review on this blog: https://basilscheuring.wixsite.com/basilreads/post/the-therapist-by-b-a-paris
I only gave this book 2 stars due to the main character, Alice, being an absolute clot. To me, the character of Alice was done a disservice. The idea of the book and who Alice was was a great concept and idea, but the execution of everything was done poorly. I was really looking forward to reading this book and was severely disappointed.

Title: The Hunting Party
Author: Lucy Foley
Pages: 369
Rating: 4.5 stars
This was my first Lucy Foley book and I truly enjoyed it. I loved the multiple point of views
A group of friends and their spouses get together every New Years Eve to get together and catch up. This year, everything goes wrong.
The group is in a remote resort in the Scottish highlands and a huge storm traps everybody there. Throughout the point of views you learn who the characters are and how everybody's tragedy blends together and explodes at this resort.
Who is the hunter, and who is the prey.
I gave this book 4.5 stars because it kept me interested and I didn't see the twist coming at the end. I also really enjoyed reading about each character; you think you know them and then they reveal their truths and you don't know what to believe anymore. With these twists in the characters, you really don't know who to believe or trust; the hunter is not who you would imagine.

Title: The Guest List
Author: Lucy Foley
Pages: 313
Rating: 3 stars
After reading 'The Hunting Party' I was very excited to start 'The Guest List', but was left wanting more.
This was the wedding of a lifetime, and the wedding from hell. The happy couple were wealthy and had major influence. The groomsmen were his mates from a school that was super severe and had a game called 'Survive the Night'. You were blind folded, tied up, and left in a deserted area and had to find your way back to the school.
'Survive The Night' ends up happening during the wedding and all of the anger and truths that come out during it, destroying relationships, and lives.
Since I have experience with Lucy Foley's writing now it was easier to see the twists. But once again, the killer was not who I was expecting it to be and I really liked who it was.
