Thank you so much, Meghan Quinn and her publishing team, for the ARC of Runaway Groomsman!
Sawyer Castle was at his wit's end and ready to snap - his girlfriend cheated on him with his best friend, and now he is the best man at their wedding. The pressure becomes too much and during the middle of the vows, he takes a run for it in pure Cinderella fashion, losing a shoe in the process.
Fallon Long is a nurse turned full-time caretaker to her grandfather who has Alzheimer's. While taking care of her grandfather she has the pressure of renovating her grandfather's legacy - The Canoodle Cove Cabins. With little to no bookings and her grandfather's condition getting worse, Fallon is at a loss for what to do.
Fate shines down favorably on Fallon when Sawyer comes to Canoodle and stays indefinitely in Cabin 8 at Fallon's establishment.
Canoodle becomes a sanctuary for Sawyer, he is able to help Fallon with the renovations while creating a bond with her grandfather. During the renovation process, Sawyer and Fallon form a deep friendship that turns into love.
I gave this book 5 stars because it was super predictable and felt like I was reading a Hallmark movie! It was exactly what I was needing to read. I absolutely adored it! I loved everything about Sawyer - from his handiness with the renovations, to his ridiculous humor. Fallon's stubbornness and determination were endearing and you could connect with the stress that she was feeling.
The town of Canoodle was a wonderful cliche with ridiculous people and ridiculously named buildings and hiking trails - my favorite being Harry Balls Trail.
What I did not like about this book was Fallon's best friend Jaz. She was a knife-wielding crazy woman who you did not want to be on her bad side. To me, she was annoying and took away from Fallon and Sawyer's romance. Despite Jaz not being my favorite, I hope the next book is about her romance with Sawyer's brother.
