Bree had been harboring deep feelings for her best friend, who was also a famous comedian on the hit show "Comedy Hour". Her love for Sam prevented her from pursuing any romantic relationships with other men, and she eventually made the difficult decision to leave town and start a new job in Michigan. However, telling Sam about her departure without causing a scene proved to be a challenge.
Sam's life took a downward turn when his ex, a pop star, released a viral song highlighting his flaws. His career took a hit, and his self-destructive behavior pushed him toward Bree for comfort. As Sam stays with her, he realizes that he wants to take his relationship with Bree to the next level, but his behavior threatens to ruin everything.
Despite Sam's advances, Bree stands firm on her decision to leave for Michigan and prioritizes her own happiness over her feelings for Sam. The book has a happy ending, with Bree finally recognizing her self-worth and pursuing her goals.
One unique aspect of this book is the portrayal of a comedian as the love interest, which is not often seen in romance novels. Although the friends-to-lovers plot is a classic trope, the lack of chemistry between Sam and Bree detracted from the story's believability. Additionally, the author's description of Sam made it difficult for the reader to separate him from the real-life comedian Pete Davidson, which was a pass for me.
